Comments: I just wanted to let you know how much we all appreciated your presentation. My advisory and group and I had a very deep and touching discussion about the problems with drugs and alcohol, and I don't think the conversation could've happened without hearing your touching words and important setiments. Some of students remarked that it touched them deeply and how it made them recognize how lucky they are. One student remarked that they always knew drugs were bad, but that your presentation helped them realize how much drugs can affect people you've known forever.
Thank you for giving us a chance to hear your story.

I do not only work in a drugtesting lab for a paycheck, but I beleive in drugtesting. I used most of my life and did not find recovery until i was 40years old. It has been almost 5 years now, and one of the comments that your son made about,\"mom i am always going to drink with my friends\" struck home with me, my son is addicted to alcohol and pot, and I try to tell him that I did not pick up herion until I was in my 30\'s. I wish you all the best and will pray for you and your foundation. Keep on speaking!!!Parents are truly the anti-drug!!

Comments: I received a notice today in the mail that Nancy C. Sheehan, MD (Storrs, CT) is lobbying for Marijuana to be legalized in the state of CT. Shame on her! For a doctor to think promoting a carcinigen that a patient must injest to help a disorder in anyway is absurd. To beleive that you can treat cancer or disease with poisons...hum... I do not think I would allow the parties involved with this mindset to even care for our Guinea Pig, let alone my child or dog. We need to teach preventative measures in maintaining optimal health so the diseases of today do not affect our children. "Dis-ease" is something you do to yourself through your lifestyle choices...it is not something you just get. We do not argue that we have genetic weaknesses, but we firmly believe that the "genetic is the bullet" and the "lifestyle is the trigger". Cancer and all disease is a lifestyle problem...treating it with poisons like marijuana is not the answer. Every cell in the body requires life maintenance, if you do not take care of the human cell, you will have dis-ease. Marijuana is foreign to the human body and will only cause havoc and create more disease... Marijuana is not the answer for curing disease. If you had a fish in a fish bowl, and the fish was very ill, would you just treat the fish? No, you would change the water. When the human body is ill, it is always the fluids the cells are bathed in that are imbalanced. This imbalance in the fluids of the body...the rivers, oceans and streams... is the reason we get ill and create disease within. The truth is that sickness and disease is always the based on the internal environment. Change the lifestyle, the living, eating and thinking and miracles happen. Again, Marijuana is not an answer for anything but to create disorder and disease! The children of the world do not need to have marijuana liberated in thoughts that it is for curing disease and for better health. Marijuana is a body and mind altering poison! Thank you Ginger for allowing me to express myself. Jeri@OurInnerLight

Comments: I am a Maryland certified addictions counselor as well as amental health counselor. I work in a small general hospital that serves as resource for short detox for heroin and alcohol. Heroin moved into our community approximately 4 years ago. The average age user that we see is 15-26. We too have had a number of heroin deaths and it saddens me to see such beautiful people dying. We started a local coalition with focused efforts to deal with the addiction issues faced by many in our community. We have a long way to go but know that we must do this to save lives and to help people to build a drug gree life. I surf the net often and read stories such as Ian's that touch my heart and remind me why I need to do what I do. Suzanne

He abused presciption pain pills and the Drs. abused the prescription pads leading my family into a life of pure misery. We lived through the mood swings and the verbal abuse. His way of life effected all of us and now that he is gone the drugs he abused will continue to effect us by living without him. As a sister I know the sorrow and pain I feel every day, I see my mom and I see her pain and my heart goes out to her and every other parent whose son or daughter dies at the hands of drugs. The pain is always there but the love never dies. I hope in your quest you can reach out and touch many with your message. For I am one of many who does not want to see any family go through what we have. Keep speadng the word and you are in my prayers.

I feel very deeply for you. When you told us at the middle school your story, i felt as if Ian was a close friend of mine. I felt anger build up inside of me. I was upset that such a bright young man could possibly lead his way to dying, I know that if he would have seen everything clearly that was happening he would have had an amazing spot in limelight today. I'm very surprised that a mother would take something so calmly. I look upto you now because you amazingly walked him through things. Thank You very much for coming to my school and telling us your story.

Comments: I am touched by your story. When I heard you speak at my school "West Rocks" I was very touched by how much you are taking this drug abuse to many levels. You are teaching people that this can teach you not to do them. So thats why i wrote this, my grandfather smokes very often i asked him if he can please stop smoking. He didnt want to but when I told him about your story he stopped. And now I am very happy. Thank you so much for teaching me what drugs can do to you. Yours truly, Crystal Cuevas

Comments: Drugs killed my 27 year old son. He died from an accidental polydrug OD including - oxycontin, xanax, valium, darvocet-n, and cocaine. He started with experimentation that led to self medication to relieve his inner pain, his private demons, and low self esteem. He had recently been diagnosed with obssessive-compulsive disorder. He got into the wrong crowd and was using approximately 2 months when the drugs killed him. The oxy, xanax and valium came from a user of a pain clinic, the not legit clinics - and he used what he needed and sold the rest. My son was a good kid, who made a tragic mistake that he can not come back from. He was not a loser, just lost.

Comments: I am just arriving home from a grief workshop for parents who have experienced the loss of a child. A parent who attended the workshop recommended your site. My 23 year old son, Kerry Magann, ended his life on May 27th 2002. I am contacting you because I have noticed a strong connection between drug overdose and suicide and I can't help but wonder..."how many of these children who overdosed where clinically depressed and self medicating?" Also, how strong is the link between depression and addiction? I would like to share my story in hopes that I could lift the shame of depression and somehow help parent to recognize and cope with a child who is suffering from depression. Suicide is not a choice. It is not temporary. My son would often tell me stories about his friends who were struggling with addiction. These were his friends and yet he was not a user? This is what he told me. All I know for sure is that there was no heroin in his body at the time of his death. But there was a trace of cocain. And I know that at times his life was reckless, his choices poor. How many automobile accidents are suicides? Perhaps dealing with and addressing the severity of depression can be a part of our battle to keep children safe and off drugs. What do you think? The social stigma of drug addiction, depression, drug overdose and suicide is something that needs to change. I am ashamed to admit that one of my first thought after discovering my son's body was," atleast it wasn't from drug"s. In the days that followed I found myself telling people time and time again, "it was OVER THE COUNTER SLEEPING PILLS" It shames me to say this but again, these are words that need to be said. None of us who suffer should be ashamed. We all need the courage to speak. Shannon
