The Courage to Speak Foundation Announces The 15th Annual Ian James Eaccarino Memorial 9-Mile Race to take place on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, CT.  

Ginger Katz, CEO and Founder of The Courage to Speak® Foundation and author of Sunny’s Story, announced The 15th Annual Ian James Eaccarino Memorial 9-Mile Race, which will take place on Saturday, July 27th at 8:00 am at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, Connecticut and is promoted by the Lightfoot Running Club.

The Courage to Speak Empowering Youth to be Drug Free Family Night and Media Event - The 9th Annual Courage To Speak Empowering Youth to Be Drug Free Family Night will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 5:15 p.m., at West Rocks Middle School, 81 West Rocks Road, in Norwalk (snow date:  March 20).  All are invited to the event, which will bring students, parents, educators, school and government officials, business and community leaders together to affirm their commitment to keep our children safe from drugs and other risky behaviors. A complimentary dinner will be served.

The Courage to Speak® Foundation will conduct a “Train the Trainer” program for new facilitators to teach Courage to Speak - Courageous Parenting 101™. The training will take place on Wed. May 1st, 2013 at 10am at The Courage to Speak Foundation Office, 71 East Ave, Suite M, 2nd Floor, Norwalk, CT or Wed, May 8th, 2013 at 10:30am at Plainville Public Library, 56 East Main St., Plainville, CT. The Foundation will train social workers, teachers, prevention experts, law enforcement and other interested professionals who work with youth and families as facilitators to teach Courage to Speak - Courageous Parenting 101 to parents in their communities, schools, youth and civic organizations and other forums. Launched in 2008, 109 professional facilitators are credentialed by the Courage to Speak® Foundation to teach Courageous Parenting 101® to parents in English and Spanish in communities throughout CT, NY, MA, RI and MI.

Knowledge is Power: Courage to Speak-Courageous Parenting 101® -The Lesson That Could Save Your Child’s Life

It is a fact that our children will be offered alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, often many times, starting in middle school and continuing through high school.  What can you do about this?  Learn about substance abuse and gain the knowledge and skills needed to keep your children safe.

A free parent education series, entitled Courage to Speak-Courageous Parenting 101®  developed by experts with the Courage to Speak® Foundation will be offered in English and Spanish at West Rocks Middle School, 81 West Rocks Road, Norwalk CT. The first of the three-session course will include a presentation by Ginger Katz, CEO and founder of the Foundation and author of Sunny’s Story, at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012.

COURAGE TO SPEAK® FOUNDATION LAUNCHES FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER OPEN HOUSE 

Targeting Substance Abuse and Parent-Child Communication with Knowledge

The Courage to Speak Foundation will dedicate its new Family Resource Center on September 21, 2012 at 8:45 AM in its headquarters at 71 East Avenue, Suite M, 2nd Floor in Norwalk, CT. The new center will provide information on substance abuse and prevention to educate parents, teachers, and children.  Among those attending the dedication are: Norwalk Mayor Richard A. Moccia, Norwalk Chief of Police Thomas Kulhawik, Interim School Superintendent Tony Daddona and the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

The Courage to Speak Foundation Receives Funding for Drug Prevention Education in Bridgeport
The Courage to Speak Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of a $15,000 Donor Advised Grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation for its continued work in the Bridgeport Public Schools. Awarded for the third consecutive year, this significant grant was made possible by a local donor who wishes to remain anonymous and receives philanthropic advisory services from the Foundation. This funding will support the implementation of the Courage to Speak® Drug Prevention Curriculum for Grades 4-7 in Bridgeport Public Schools.

The Courage to Speak Foundation Volunteer Luis Solis Selected by New England Patriots Charitable Foundation 
The Courage to Speak® Foundation is pleased to announce that the Kraft family selected Luis Solis to receive The Myra Kraft Community MVP Award, which honors individuals who exemplify leadership, dedication and a commitment to improving their communities through volunteerism. The Foundation received a $2,500 grant award from the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation as a result of Mr. Solis being chosen.

The Courage to Speak Foundation has been invited to speak at the National Rx Drug Abuse Summit in Orlando, FL on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Ginger Katz, CEO and Founder, will be delivering a message of hope through the Courage to Speak Presentation to all attendees at the event. The Foundation will have a booth during the Summit from April 10th to April 12th.

Thanks to the generosity of a local bank, thousands of parents in Hispanic communities will gain the knowledge and skills to keep their children safe from drugs. The Courage to Speak Foundation received a donation from Luis and Kristen Solis, owners of Norwalk Pizza and Pasta to provide 80 copies of the book Sunny’ s Story to the Norwalk Schools. Winner: Nonprofit Advocate of the Year; Ginger Katz, The Courage to Speak Foundation: Educating students about drug abuse and saving young lives. “Silence is a killer when it comes to children and drug abuse,” said Ginger Katz, founder and CEO of The Courage to Speak Foundation. “If we don’t speak about this problem we’re not going to have solutions. And if we don’t have solutions, children will die.” Katz knows this heartache. She and her husband Larry lost their 20-year-old son, Ian, in 1996 to a drug overdose. Yale University School of Medicine to evaluate Courage to Speak Programs.
The Consultation Center at Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, has chosen the Norwalk-based Courage to Speak® Foundation's drug prevention curriculum programs as a subject for evaluation.
 
A nationally recognized service and research organization, the center will evaluate the use of the programs in Norwalk and other public school districts to determine their effectiveness and how they can be successfully implemented elsewhere. read more
