The Courage to Speak Foundation Announces the 20th Annual Ian James Eaccarino Memorial 9-Mile Race to take place on Saturday, August 4th, 2018 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, CT

Ginger Katz, CEO and Founder of the Courage to Speak® Foundation and author of Sunny’s Story, announced The 20thAnnual Ian James Eaccarino Memorial 9-Mile Race, which will take place on Saturday, August 4th at 8:00am at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, Connecticut and is promoted by the Lightfoot Running Club. Norwalk’s Mayor Harry Rilling will show his continued support of the mission of the Courage to Speak® Foundation by addressing the runners before the race, and Don Capone will serve as Race Director.

The 14th Annual Courage to Speak® Empowering Youth to be Drug-Free Family Night

The 14th Annual Courage To Speak Empowering Youth to Be Drug Free Family Night will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., at Roton Middle School,  201 Highland Ave, Norwalk, CT, (snow date:  March 20).  All are invited to the event, which will bring students, parents, educators, school and government officials, business and other community leaders together to affirm their commitment to keep our children safe from drugs and other risky behaviors. A complimentary dinner will be served.

Opioid Forum Speaks to the Importance of Prevention

HARTFORD – The Commission on Women, Children and Seniors has partnered with the Courage to Speak® Foundation to present a forum at the Capitol on the critical importance of opioid prevention for children and youth.

On Thursday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Commission, Foundation, key partners, experts, and parents/caregivers will highlight the need for prevention through education and parental and community engagement. They will also identify components of legislation needed to help end this epidemic; such tools include opioid education, social and emotional skills building, prevention tactics, and other concrete ways children can learn to refuse opioids and other drugs despite peer pressure and availability.

The Courage to Speak® Foundation has developed a new program, “Parenting Through the Opioid Crisis and Beyond”, a FREE drug prevention course designed specifically for parents of elementary, middle, and high school students. The program was developed by The Courage to Speak Foundation by a grant from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Courage to Speak Foundation’s 21st Year in Mission to Save Lives

“The 13th Annual Courage to Speak Empowering Youth to be Drug-free Family Night”

The Courage to Speak Foundation was founded by Ginger Katz in 1996 after her son Ian died of an accidental heroin and prescription drug overdose.  Since then, it has been her mission to do everything in her power to prevent this tragedy from happening to another family.  This marks the 21th year fulfilling that mission, and we are celebrating our position on Google as number one for drug prevention speaker, book, and curriculum!

The Foundation trains classroom teachers and professional facilitators to teach the drug prevention programs and coordinates community events fostering commitment to drug prevention education, thereby saving lives.  The next event is the 13th Annual Courage to Speak® Empowering Youth to Be Drug-Free Family Night will take place on Monday, March 13, 2017, 5:30 p.m., at West Rocks Middle School, 81 West Rocks Road, in Norwalk (snow date:  March 14, 2017).

Knowledge is Power: Courage to Speak-Courageous Parenting 101® -The Lesson That Could Save Your Child’s Life

It is a fact that our children will be offered alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, often many times, starting in middle school and continuing through high school. What can you do about this? Learn about substance abuse and gain the knowledge and skills needed to keep your children safe. 

A free parent education series, entitled Courage to Speak-Courageous Parenting 101® developed by experts with the Courage to Speak® Foundation will be offered at West Rocks Middle School, 81 West Rocks Road, Norwalk CT. The first of the two-session course will be taught by Larry Katz, MS and former Social Worker with the State of Connecticut, Child Welfare Division, and Co-Founder of the Courage to Speak® Foundation. As a prelude to the course, Ginger Katz, CEO and Founder of the Courage to Speak® Foundation will deliver the Courage to Speak®  Presentation at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016, followed by session one. Session two will continue Thursday, November 17th at 6:00 pm. The course will be taught by Carlos Reinoso Jr., MSMOL, BHCC. A light dinner will be served at 5:30pm during both sessions. Child care will be available with reservation.

The Courage to Speak® Foundation Receives Funding from ATT&T

The Courage to Speak® Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of a $2,500 grant award from ATT&T.  This grant was made possible by the support of State Representative Christopher Perone and Harry Carey, Director of External Affairs of AT&T Connecticut. This grant will aid in the Courage to Speak® Foundation’s mission of “Saving lives by empowering youth to be drug free and encouraging parents to communicate effectively with their children about drugs” by allowing the Foundation to continue to expand its drug prevention programs to schools and communities.

Free Parenting Course Designed to Save Lives

A free parent education series, entitled Courage to Speak-Courageous Parenting 101® developed by experts with the Courage to Speak® Foundation will be offered at West Rocks Middle School, 81 West Rocks Road, Norwalk CT. Ginger Katz, CEO and founder of The Courage to Speak® Foundation and author of Sunny’s Story, will be presenting from“Marijuana to Opiates” on May 18 at Briggs High School in Norwalk, CT, and “The Courage to Make Healthy Decisions” on May 19 at Black Rock School in Bridgeport, CT.  The students in both schools have read Ginger’s book, Sunny’s Story in preparation for her visit.
